What the heck do we wear?

For the ladies, cocktail attire probably be the most appropriate. For men, I suggest slacks and a sport coat or a suit.

The ceremony is on the beach, and cocktail hour will be outdoors. We will have a little table set up for guests to take off their shoes if they would like to go barefoot for the ceremony, and small towels to wipe off sandy feet (completely optional -- but there will be about 20 feet or so where guests will have to walk in the sand).

The dinner will be outdoors, with heat lamps. The reception is indoors.

I suggest the guys bring a light jacket or sweater, and the ladies bring a wrap of some sort as even with the heaters, it could be slightly cool toward the end of dinner.

Doggie Beach Here We Come

Introducing Miley Ray (thanks Hoffman!) –a soft bundle of pure puppy energy. She's a rescue dog. Dad was a German shepherd, mom was a terrier. New parents are a little lost. Still trying to figure out how to get her to sleep past 4:30 in the morning. She loves grass, flowers, bees, and all things forbidden on the ground. Hates DAWN dish soap when you squeeze it or even point it in her general direction. She hops like a bunny. So funny. Can't wait for the gang to meet her!

Tips on where to stay

San Diego is famous for its perfect weather, clear blue skies and sandy beaches. Our wedding will take place at ZLAC Rowing Club on the Mission Bay side of Pacific Beach (P.B.), a laid-back surfer community about nine miles north of downtown (Gaslamp District where we live).

P.B., the Gaslamp District and La Jolla locations have ample restaurants, bars, and shopping, however, the local vibe from place to place is fairly different. Details below:

Hotels within walking distance of the wedding, Mission Bay and Pacific Beach:

All three hotels below are within a few hundered yards of one another, and each of them are within a five minute walk to the wedding site.

· Catamaran Resort ($185)– Call and ask for Dave, and specify the Thompson/Meredith wedding. (800) 422-8386. He will honor the $185 rate. The Catamaran is perfect for our families, and guests with families – this small resort is located ON THE BAY with ready access to the sand or the marina. The grounds are really pretty, and there are plenty of places to relax and just visit. The rooms are nice, but a little on the older side. The Catamaran boasts its own macaws, koi ponds, a small and sunny pool and miles of walking trails along the bay. Kayaking too!

·Best Western Blue Sea ($175): Not fancy, but not too shabby either – the Best Western is also within walking distance of the wedding and sits ON THE BEACH in Pacific Beach. More appropriate for friends of the bride and groom who want to stroll the beach, eat fish tacos and just hang out.

· Surfer Hotel ($108 with AAA): Think Dewey Beach. Just adjacent to the Best Western – this is also within walking distance to the wedding. Right on the beach, this hotel is a bit “bro’d out” but the price is right!

Hotels within a five-mile drive to the wedding:

Hyatt Mission Bay ($289 Thurs/Fri to $369 Sat) : You'll need a car, but the rooms are spacious, and Sea World is just around the corner. With three pools and the Blue Marble Spa, the Hyatt Mission Bay is located about three miles south of the wedding location and 7.5 miles north of downtown.

Hotels within walking distance to the Gaslamp District:

A $12 cab ride from the airport, the Gaslamp District is a cross between Fourth Street and Sixth Streets in Austin, or for our East Coasters, a blend of Georgetown and DuPont Circle. You can easily walk to the naval aircraft carrier, take a “pedi” cab to the San Diego Zoo, and stroll through the Petco baseball stadium. Hotels in this part of town are newer, roomier and a little steeper in price that Pacific Beach. Probably less expensive than La Jolla.

Warning to the weary -- the wedding is on Halloween weekend, and the Gaslamp District will be rockin!

Hotels.com and Tripadvisor.com both have a decent listing of hotel reviews in this area.

SCHEDULE

Friday night – we hope that many of you who traveled into town early will join us for a drink or two Friday evening at the Catamaran Resort and Spa Bar - MORAY'S - at 8 PM so we can have some fun and hang out with all of our family and friends.

Wedding day - For those of you who are walking to the ceremony -- ZLAC is about 0.3 miles from the Catamaran and 0.4 miles from the Best Western. You can walk along the bay or the street with ease. For those folks who are staying at the Hyatt or at Tower 23, we're let us know where you will be so we can help.

Sunday - while not officially part of the wedding plans, please join us for bagels and juice at the Catamaran. We're not headed out on our honeymoon until Monday, so if there are folks interested in meeting us once again, pencil it in. For those that have to head out to make it home across the country, we absolutely understand; we are truly blessed to have each of you joined us.

As for the brunch location, if there are any P.B. natives in the crowd, we're open to suggestions!
